Advent Devotions
Advent is a season of waiting and preparation. We wait to celebrate Christmas
and the birth of our Savior. We prepare for his coming again. Through ages
Christians have taken time in Advent to wait and prepare through prayer and
reading Scripture. These Advent devotions are intended to help guide you.
For each devotion, a list of readings from the Bible is
provided. You might read one or more of these aloud. After the Bible readings
is a hymn by Charles Wesley. The hymn relates directly to one or more of the
Bible readings. You might read the hymn aloud, too, as a prayer. All of
Wesley’s hymns can be found at: http://divinity.duke.edu/initiatives-centers/cswt/wesley-texts/charles-wesley.
After the hymn, there is a very short reflection about the
Scripture passages or hymn. Each devotion then closes with a prayer.
All told, there are seven devotions here: First Sunday, Second Sunday, Third Sunday, and Fourth Sunday in Advent; Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the
Sunday after Christmas.
I hope these devotions will help you as you journey with
other disciples at Centre in this Advent season.
Pastor Mark
